In its basic sense, a parachute is neither made for travel and sports, it was created to increase safety while descending from a certain altitude. It is a medium to delay the pull of gravity from earth when deployed form higher altitude.

In short, it makes the dropping of an item, a person or equipment vertically or diagonally slower by reducing the amount of dragging force while maintaining a balance so that the item would remain safe until it reaches the . Early physicists have made use of this principle and newer develops in parachuting technology led to the creation of various types of parachutes.

Early types of parachutes

Parasol type – Though not strictly called parachutes, the parasols were commonly used by performers in China to create a slow falling effect onstage.

Conical parachute – Possibly the earliest form of parachute is the conical shaped-parachute which appeared during 1470s in Italy preceding the design conceptualized by Leonardo da Vinci. As an escape device, this type of parachute was intended to allow people to get safely on the from burning buildings. However, there are no written records whether this parachute was ever used for that purpose.

Pyramid Parachute – Another design by Leonardo da Vinci, this parachute was conceptualized in Milan during the early part of 1480. It was a canopy that is supported by light wood held by a square bottom frame.

Pack-style parachute – This is the predecessor of all parachutes that are stored in casings these days.

– A basic drag device, round parachute is used in various settings like medical missions, cargo applications and military operations. While being described commonly as round in shape, the parachute actually resembles a dome or a jellyfish. This has been among the most popular type however; present-day parachutists don’t normally use this kind of parachute.

The earliest round parachutes were circulars with flat surfaces that made them unstable, thus causing a number of deaths and injuries on parachutists. To add more stability, military were made parabolic or conical in shape.

There are two types of - steerable and non-steerable. Like ram-air parachutes, non-steerable parachutes can’t be maneuvered to

Founding Principles of Aikido. T eachings of Aikido. Japanese martial arts.http://myallsports.com/founding-principles-of-aikido-t-eachings-of-aikido-japanese-martial-arts/128/ http://myallsports.com/founding-principles-of-aikido-t-eachings-of-aikido-japanese-martial-arts/128/#comments Fri, 22 Apr 2011 06:43:42 +0000 Aikido master http://myallsports.com/founding-principles-of-aikido-t-eachings-of-aikido-japanese-martial-arts/128/ Founding Principles of Aikido. T eachings of Aikido. Japanese martial arts.

Aikido means "The Way of Harmony with the Spirit" and is a non-violent form of martial art. However, don’t be fooled. Aikido when used correctly is very powerful often are able to block and neutralize strong attacks and counter them with an equal force.

Morihei Ueshiba, now known as O-sensei to the world of Aikido, founded the martial art. O-sensei is a master of Jujitsu or unarmed combat, Kinjitsu or sword combat, and sojitsu or spear combat and studied philosophical and religious teachings.

Because of the religious and philosophical foundations of Aikido, principles of the martial art include ways to harmonize with the ki or spirit within oneself and the bigger spirit of nature. Among the principles of Aikido include oneness, circular motion and ki.

Among the philosophical teachings of Aikido, one of the more basics and more important is learning to control oneself. Maintaining an inner balance is necessary to harmonize with others enabling to control an opponent’s attack or applying an effective technique. Self-control is the key to achieve and maintain harmony.

The Principle of Oneness is another basic principle in Aikido. An aikidoka must learn to become one with any situation. Becoming one means having an attitude of respect for all things and situations, friend or foe. By training to become one with every situation, harmonization will follow and it will become possible to execute Aikido techniques, movements and forms accurately and efficiently.

Harmony also means synthesis. And the spiritual circle which is a foundation of all Aikido techniques synthesizes everything. Aikido is a combination of circular movements. Its techniques and movements revolve around the concept of circular motions. When an opponent attacks, the aikidoka uses a circular motion of the lower abdomen to control the attack and execute Aikido techniques to counterattack.

It is said that defense is the greatest offense. In Aikido to defend properly an attack, one must learn to move away from the range of effectiveness of the opponent’s attack. However, as you try to defend by getting out of the opponent’s effective range, you must also try to maintain your own range of effectiveness in order to counterattack efficiently.

You won’t be able to give an effective counterattack if you stepped too far away from your opponent. Similarly, being too close would definitely lessen the effectiveness of your techniques. Everything will depend on the situation. As an Aikido practitioner, you must learn to determine how to avoid your opponent’s range while controlling your own in various situations.

Finally, the Principle of Ki involves believing that every thing in the universe is governed by a force or spirit.

Should You Take Golf Training (Lessons)? – Target sports.http://myallsports.com/should-you-take-golf-training-lessons-target-sports/188/ http://myallsports.com/should-you-take-golf-training-lessons-target-sports/188/#comments Mon, 18 Apr 2011 03:56:13 +0000 Golfer http://myallsports.com/should-you-take-golf-training-lessons-target-sports/188/ Should You Take Golf Training (Lessons)? - Target sports.

If you have ever looked lonely onto a Golf course and wished that you were capable of playing just as well as the professionals do, or if you have ever found yourself watching television wishing you could play along with them you may have the idea of Golf lessons in your head. This is a sport that almost anyone can play and is appropriate for all ages as well as genders. There are professional levels, amateur levels, those who play for only fun, and even those who are children that play together. Finding someone to play with is generally not a problem, and still others choose to play by themselves. Due to the incredible versatility that Golf offers it is no wonder why so many people look forward to learning to play golf.

The major drawback to learning Golf can be the lessons. There are times when it is difficult to find a good qualified instructor, and other times when the lessons are not at convenient times and still other times when the prices of lessons is so unaffordable that it is virtually impossible to arrange. Yet if you are considering really trying to learn golf, it is important that you invest in some good lessons. This is going to be one of the times where you need to look for several Golf instructors in order to have the best overall results.

If you have started really thinking about learning Golf taking lessons from a professional instructor will allow you to get some key information and tips about how to stand appropriately, swing the club appropriately and even learn which clubs are best to be used and when. The information that an instructor can give you in invaluable. Yet if you are just not certain about using an instructor you are free to search the internet for tips, articles and even videos that can give you advice and suggestions. Those who choose to forgo the lessons with a good instructor usually find that they struggle to really learn the basic concepts that are essential.

For children especially it is important to have lessons with an instructor at least for a short period of time to learn the basics. Some of the more advanced concepts can be learned after they have mastered the basics with an instructor and just through practicing playing. This is a good way to save money, however if you are dreaming about your child becoming the next Tiger Woods it would be wise to continue lessons for a good while. If you are an adult considering lessons you may want to pay for a few sessions which would allow you to really get your basics established.

Once the basics are established, you do not have to worry quite so much about taking lessons. However, if you are not working to build your skills using well developed basic skills

(Skydiving, Parachuting).

The physics behind a parachute is easy to understand. But making real ones are far from easy. Making toy parachutes seem like a good idea for an easy science project but experimenting with different variations is not as easy as tying strings to a fabric. Making parachutes for use in real life takes a lot of risk and accuracy.

Before modern parachutes gave us the thrill of skydiving it took a lot of guts for early investors to design parachutes that actually work and not fall them to their death. The history of parachutes went through a lot of development and a few deaths.

The modern parachute was invented by Louis-Sébastien Lenormand in 1783. However there are earlier versions of parachutes created by a few centuries earlier. Before the silk parachute was invented, there were basic designs built that worked in the same principles.

Parachutes, past and present

The earliest form was a cloak attached to wooden struts. It was made by an Arab Muslim named Arem Firman in the 9th century. He jumped from a tower in Cordoba and suffered only minor injuries. Parasols were used in China for entertainment. It allows entertainers to jump form high places and float to the .

Leonardo da Vinci also sketched parachute with conical designs. It served as an escape device to enable people to jump from burning buildings. In 1617 Faust Vrancic was the first person to be able to make a successful jump with a parachute.

Jean Pierre Blanchard developed his own parachute as a means to get off a hot air balloon. His first demonstrations were done with a dog as the passenger. He later on unintentionally put his invention to the test as he escaped from his ruptured hot air balloon.

In the 1790′s he made a parachute out of silk which were more stringer and lighter than previously used materials. Early parachutes were made of linen with a wooden frame.

Andre Garnerin invented the vented parachute in 1797 and made a successful jump using Blanchard’s design. The vented parachute improved stability during descent. Gleb Kotelnikov invented he knapsack parachute. It was popularized by Katchlen Paulus and Paul Letterman.

The first major use of parachutes was in the military. It was by artillery spotters and pilots. Unfortunately the parachutes were heavy and pilots were not able to use it entirely. The German Air provided parachutes to their pilots. Unfortunately there were many setbacks that most of the pilots died when using them.

Leslie Irvin was able to invent

Fundamentals of aikido. Japanese martial arts.

Let’s look at the different fundamental movements of this martial arts.

Aikido is martial arts that resulted from the combination of several disciplines. It was created by Ueshiba sometime in the 1940s. It was the result of Ueshiba’s search for a technique that provided him with contentment not only in the technical sense but also in the spiritual end.

Aikido comes from the three Japanese words, ai-ki-do, which means joining, spirit, and way respectively. In essence, aikido is a martial arts form that focuses on the joining of the spirit and the body and the mind to find the Way.

Aikido has many techniques and moves. Its basic structure comes from the throws and locks found in jujitsu and also from the movements that experts do when they are fighting with swords and spears.

Fundamental Techniques of aikido

Let’s look at the different fundamental movements of this martial arts.

Ikkyo

This is the first technique in aikido, where control is achieved by the use of the hand on the elbow and one near the wrist. This is the grip that is also that can apply pressure into the ulnar, which can be found in the medial portion of the arm.

Nikyo

This is the second of the techniques, which is characterized by an adductive wristlock that twists the arm and then applies pressure in the nerve that can be really painful.

Sankyo

This is the third technique that incorporates a pronating move. It directs an upward tension all through the arm, the elbow and the shoulder.

Yonkyo

The fourth installment in the fundamental movements of aikido, yonkyo uses a shoulder control movement similar to a ikkyo but this time there is no gripping of the forearm. Instead, the knuckles apply pressure on the radial nerve

Gokyo

The fifth technique is actually a variant of ikkyo. This time the hand gripping the wrist is inverted and twisted.

Aikido protective moves

Here are some of the moves that you can use in order to disarm your opponent.

Kotogaeshi – this is what is called in the English as the wrist return. In this move, the practitioner will place a wristlock and throw that will stretch up to the extensor digitorum

Iriminage – called the entering-body throw, here the practitioner or the nage will move into the space where the uke or the opponent is. This classic move resembles the clothesline technique.

Kokyunage – this is the breath throw, a term that refers to the various types of “timing throws.”

Koshinage – this move is aikido’s version of the hip throw where in the person will drop his hips a little lower than the opponent or the uke. He will then flip

(Skydiving, Parachuting).

Parachuting is an exciting recreational activity. Apart from that there are also courses to enable you to engage in different parachute sports. There are many parachute schools in the world. Most of them have state of the art facilities, equipment s and licensed trainers that will be there when you make your first jump. There are different course available for newcomers. The courses will depend on levels of difficulty.

Newcomers can choose to enroll in different courses. Graduate students can then decide if they ant to pursue skydiving more seriously and compete in a sport. Most of the time graduates become enamored with the activity and become competitors or instructors. Other people who wish to just experience the thrill of it can book for tandem jumping.

Parachute school

Parachuting became a popular sport when parachutes became safer for public use. Many enthusiasts would meet in a drop zone and later on skydive. Due to the thrill and excitement it provides it gained popularity among the masses. Enthusiasts who wish to push the limits of extreme sports created skydiving, along with its many variants.

Parachute organizations would host events and competitions which were held in local, national and international levels. This in turn initiated the start of parachute schools who offer training and courses.

There are many parachute schools scattered all over the globe. Their courses are pretty much the same. There are courses available for serious skydivers who want to pursue a sport or want to get a license as an instructor.

These schools are popular for thrill seekers. It’s not an intensive course but you will still receive lessons from your instructor that could take 30 minutes to 1 hour. This course is called tandem jumping. You will be jumping with your instructor in a dual harness. The whole jump, from take off to landing takes about 25 minutes.

You will free fall in 40 seconds and 5 minutes under the parachute. Your instructor will deploy and control the parachute for a safe landing. The student doesn’t really need to do anything except enjoy the scenery.

Other courses are accelerated free fall and static line jump. In static line jump the trainee jumps from 3,500 feet and their parachute is automatically opened. Trainees will have plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and provide light landings. The accelerated free fall is much more intensive than the first two. The training takes up to 6 hours. Trainees have to go through 6 levels.

World of Gymnastics .

If you are looking to improve your flexibility then you are looking to improve your overall performance as a . If you are looking for a way to dramatically improve your skills then improving your flexibility is the single most important thing you can do. This means that simply changing your stretching routine can have a huge impact on your overall abilities.

If you are working towards improving your flexibility there are several things that you can do to improve quickly. One of the first is realize that if you improve your flexibility you are also able to improve how quickly your body learns new moves. This means improving your flexibility is a pressing need.

If you are looking at flexibility there are two ways to improve, the first is statically and the second is dynamically. Dynamic is also called active, and examples of that include split leaps and kicks. Examples of static flexibility include scales and other similar exercises. It is very important to mix up the type of exercises that you do to ensure that you are getting the maximum benefit possible.

If you are working on improving flexibility, the use of your natural body weight is a great way to help you improve as well. This allows you to carefully put controlled pressure on the muscles and ensure that you are capable of improving your flexibility slowly and without causing an injury. Using body weight to help improve your flexibility is a very simple method to use.

Additionally it is necessary to work on building your strength in each stretched position. This is important because many gymnastic positions require you to get in positions that are stretched and hold them for a few moments. This is a very difficult skill if you do not have the muscle strength necessary to hold the position. Slowly working to build this strength is best, and one of the best ways to do it is by continuously working and practicing the moves.

It is very important to understand that in addition to leg and back flexibility being very important it is also important to have flexible shoulders and arms so that acrobatic positions look proper and feel correct. If you do not have the flexibility necessary to move in required positions then it is very difficult to control movements and to perform a routine correctly.

One of the best ways to improve your flexibility easily is to carefully work out a plan to inject a bit of stretching into almost everything you do in normal life. This could be something as simple as doing a few

Best Aikido Secrets Everyone Should Know Japanese martial arts.http://myallsports.com/best-aikido-secrets-everyone-should-know-japanese-martial-arts/130/ http://myallsports.com/best-aikido-secrets-everyone-should-know-japanese-martial-arts/130/#comments Fri, 08 Apr 2011 05:17:22 +0000 Aikido master http://myallsports.com/best-aikido-secrets-everyone-should-know-japanese-martial-arts/130/ Best Aikido Secrets Everyone Should Know Japanese martial arts.

When an attacker is approaching, the person only has a split second to decide whether to dodge or block the move of the opponent. There is no point thinking about what this happened in the first place but the concern now is just to stop it.

In a fight, the person can make a counter attack in the hopes that the individual will be subdued. There is another way of course without resorting to force, which is the technique one can learn in aikido.

Aikido is a martial art in which the person blocks the moves of an opponent by using the hands. Anyone who wants to learn it will not be able to move as fast as Steven Segal in one of his action films but still be effective in combat.

This martial art cannot be learned by merely watching others do it in the movies or in television. There are some who even show the step by step process in a magazine but nothing still compares to learning it from a Sensei.

The person must first become a student in order to be called a master. This means learning the basic rules from entering the dojo until the class is over. The person will surely feel some pain after falling down a few times on the mat but this is not to torture the pupil.

This is all part of the training, which the student must also do properly in order to move into the more advanced classes.

One of the secrets is being able to know when to use it since timing is everything. There is a bit of hand to eye coordination just like in sports but here, the individual will merely redirect the same force back to that individual.

Another secret in using aikido has to do with the wrist. The person should be smooth enough to put one hand over the opponents to be able to make the technique work and counter the attack.

It takes a certain amount of energy to be able to perform certain moves. The individual will learn the various breathing exercises that will increase the heart rate and slow it down especially in the heat of the action.

The student should bear in mind that the breathing exercises also serves as a unifying force between the physical and the emotional aspect of the person.

The most important secret in mastering aikido is being consistent with the technique. The arms will surely feel heavy after some time or a certain amount of energy is drained after a few moves. By being able to do the same thing despite these difficulties, anyone can truly be called a true martial artist.

People who want to check on how well one is doing can sign up for Tomiki Aikido. This is a competition held by various clubs in which the student will compete among some of the best in the country.

Those who do well here can move up to the next skill

Ikkyo. Atemi. Weapons in Aikido. Japanese martial arts.http://myallsports.com/ikkyo-atemi-weapons-in-aikido-japanese-martial-arts/138/ http://myallsports.com/ikkyo-atemi-weapons-in-aikido-japanese-martial-arts/138/#comments Wed, 06 Apr 2011 22:20:21 +0000 Aikido master http://myallsports.com/ikkyo-atemi-weapons-in-aikido-japanese-martial-arts/138/ Ikkyo. Atemi. Weapons in Aikido. Japanese martial arts.

Aikido is one of the traditional forms of martial arts that combine both the body and the mind. It does not only emphasize the use of physical skills but also the spirituality of practitioners and those who wish to learn the art.

Aikido is a technique that incorporates moves that are more defensive than offensive. In fact, it seeks not to injure but to prevent or stop a person. This is perhaps why there is rarely a weapon used in the sport. The martial arts is made up mostly of movements and techniques. Still, there are some, who are already advanced, that go into weapons training. Weapons that are used in aikido are the tanto, the wooden jo and the bokken. Often, techniques in taking weapons from opponents and keeping the weapon practitioners are using are taught.

More than specific weapons, practitioners of aikido rely mostly on the moves that they are being taught with. Their mastery of these movements are their weapons against people who wish to do them harm.

Below is a rundown of the movements and techniques taught in aikido.

Ikkyo

This is the most basic movement in aikido. In fact, it is the first to be taught. Ikkyo makes use of control in the grip by applying hand grip on the elbow and near the wrist. The grip can apply pressure on the ulnar, a medial portion of the arm.

Atemi

Atemi are feints or strikes that are used as attacks against the vital points o the body. This movement is meant to cause much damage; so it is rarely being used in aikido. Still, if there is a need, one can use atemi in fighting your way out of brawls. It can also be used as a form of distraction. Atemis can take your opponent by surprise and break his concentration by providing a startling incident. When used the right way, it can also ruin your opponent’s balance, which can provide an opportunity for you to strike or to run away.

Another form of strikes that can be used in aikido is the kick. This is however not used as often. Aikido does not encourage the use of kicks because injuries brought on by these kinds of movements may be too dangerous. Also, kicks are not so common in feudal Japan, where aikido originated.

Here are some forms of strikes that are often used.

face-thrust – Although the aikido name, Ganmen-tsuki, can be quite complicated, it is basically a punch directed to the face.

Front-face – Called Shomenuchi in aikido language, it is characterized by a vertical knife strike to the head of the opponent.

Side-face – Also termed Yokomenuchi, this strike is done by making a diagonal knife-hand strike at the side of the neck or the side of the head of the opponent.

(Skydiving, Parachuting).

Who doesn’t enjoy a skydiving exhibition? The formation and techniques that experienced skydivers do as they jump, free fall and slowly descend can be breathtaking for the average spectator. If it is exciting for the audience, then it is no doubt twice as exciting for the skydiver himself.

But while most skydivers focus on perfecting their skills and using the best and latest equipment , some of them neglect another important aspect of skydiving. This is the parachuting gear.

The basic parachuting gear is the jumpsuit. Others use a wing suit. Any skydiver will tell you the importance of a jumpsuit. Imagine if one wears jeans and a tank top during a dive. The clothes would well be torn into pieces because of the pressure from the winds. A jumpsuit protects you from the winds, sun and other elements.

It also protects you as you land. Not all landings are perfect. Others land on their back, or your parachute can be caught in a tree, causing you to bruise against the branches. A good jumpsuit must be able to protect you from scratches, cuts and bruises.

Aside from the jumpsuit, other pieces which a skydiver must have include protective gear. Helmet, padding and spinal protector are just among the few gadgets that you must wear. Choose the gear that would best suit you.

In choosing the right gear, choose one which is made of some durable material, one that does not easily tear or break when exposed to heavy winds. It must also be heat-resistant and waterproof.

Also, make sure that the suit fits you well. A suit that is too tight restricts your movement, aside from the fact that it may break or tear upon pressure. One that is too loose may also open easily when subjected to strong winds.

There are some sports shops or specialty shops which sell these types of apparel. You may also visit some websites and make an online purchase. Seek advice from your trainer or other professional skydivers as to which apparel or style is better in terms of performance and cost.

If you want a perfect-fitting jumpsuit, you can have it tailor-made. There are some tailoring shops which specialize in making skydiving gear. Although this may be a little more costly than the ready-made ones, the comfort that a perfect-fitting jumpsuit brings to the user is priceless.

While a new jumpsuit may be ideal, for those who are in a tight budget, there are also used materials that you can find. Ask the sales person from your
